Scholarship and Financial Aid Information

Applications for financial aid are taken after a student has been accepted to SDA. Financial Aid applications will be available on Registration Day, February 7, 2009. Incoming freshmen are requested to fill out a financial aid application. For specific questions regarding financial aid issues, please contact SDA’s Finance Office at (201) 434-5938, ext. 33.

There is no separate application for academic scholarships. Students who have applied to SDA, and who attain the top CO-OP scores and possess a very strong academic record, will be offered academic scholarships by SDA Principal Ms. Deborah Egan.

Tuition Assistance
If you are applying for tuition assistance and are an incoming freshman OR a returning student, The SDA Tuition Assistance Form is to be mailed to the address below no later than MARCH 31st, 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year. Please download the form and list "St. Dominic Academy" as the Name of Parish on the form.

Learning More About SDA

School Visits
Grammar School Principals and Guidance Counselors -- Would you like a representative to come and speak with your 8th and/or 7th grade girls about SDA? Please call Ms. Barbara Vergel, Director of Public Relations and Admissions, at (201) 434-5938, ext. 49 to schedule a visit.

Freshman For A Day
We offer 8th and 7th grade girls the opportunity to experience what it would be like to be an SDA student. You are invited to spend a day at the academy where you'll be assigned a friendly SDA Freshman to escort you to classes for the day. 8th grade girls are invited to attend SDA in October and November, while 7th grade girls are invited in March and April.

Visitors arrive at 8:05 a.m. and are dismissed at 2:38 p.m. Lunch is provided. Kindly dress appropriately (no jeans or sneakers). For more information, parents are requested to call Ms. Vergel at (201) 434-5938, ext. 49 or via email at  bvergel@stdominicacad.com

Admissions

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE
You must apply to be considered for admission into St. Dominic Academy. All applicants are required to submit two items to SDA.

(1) Please submit the completed application form entitled “Ninth Grade Applicant Record” by December 5, 2008. Please fill out the top portion, and ask your principal to complete the bottom portion with your grades, conduct, effort and attendance records. Ask your guidance counselor/principal to send the form, along with copies of all standardized test scores, to Director of Public Relations and Admissions Ms. Barbara Vergel, St. Dominic Academy, 2572 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07304. If you need this application form, you may download it from the “CO-OP” link on the SDA website at www.stdominicacad.com, or contact Ms. Vergel at (201) 434-5938, ext. 49 if you would like to have it mailed to you.

(2) The second part of the application process at SDA is an entrance exam. Applicants are required to take the Cooperative Admissions Exam (CO-OP) and request that their scores be sent to SDA. Please note that you must register to take the CO-OP exam, which will be given on Friday, November 7, 2008.

An outside company, MCS, handles all test day logistics. You must register to take the test with MCS. You may register online at www.coopexam.org. Select “Online Application Registration” and follow the instructions. Please note that October 10, 2008 is the deadline for online registrations to be received by MCS. You will need a major credit card to register online; the test fee is $40.00. You are advised to register early, as SDA may fill up as a test site.

Please note that SDA’s code number is “826.” If you wish to take the exam here at SDA, you will need the code when you register for the test site. Be sure to have your scores sent to SDA using code number 826. By October 31st, you should receive an Admission Form that you must bring with you to the test site. You must report to the test site at 8 a.m.; testing will be begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 12:45 p.m.

If you do not receive your admission form by November 5th, call the Cooperative Admissions Examination Office at 888-921-2667. Write the information you are given over the phone on the blank admission form on page 7 of the Cooperative Admissions Examination Student Handbook. Refer to page 6 of the handbook for more detailed instructions.
