Saint Dominic Academy Hosts “Don’t Stress the Test” Workshop
Who doesn’t get anxious at the thought of taking a standardized test? Saint Dominic Academy provided relief to local eighth-graders as they prepared to take their high school entrance exams by offering a “Don’t Stress the Test” workshop on October 29th, 2009. Seventy-four eighth grade girls from a variety of grammar schools convened at Saint Dominic Academy to take part in this program.   Students participated in ice-breakers, and learned test-taking strategies, time management skills and stress reduction techniques from SDA teachers and students. SDA Director of Admissions, Miss Barbara Vergel, deemed the event a success stating, “The students were able to calm their nerves before the exam. We wanted them to know that Saint Dominic Academy supports them in their endeavor to attend a Catholic High School.”

SDA teacher, Miss Maryann McLean , who lead one of the workshop activities, heard gratitude from parents who were with their daughters at the workshop. “One mother expressed her thanks to me stating that this workshop was the best thing to soothe her daughter’s nerves prior to the exam.” said Miss McLean.
