SAINT DOMINIC ACADEMY SENIOR IS COMMENDED STUDENT IN THE 2012 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The principal of Saint Dominic Academy, Mr. Thomas Corbo, announced today that senior Toni-Anne Fajardo, a resident of Secaucus, has been named a Commended Student in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by Mr. Corbo to this scholastically talented senior.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2012 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
SDA Juniors Receive Their Class Rings
On October 20th, 2011, the Saint Dominic Academy Juniors received their class rings in a beautiful ceremony held at St. Aloysius Church in Jersey City. Family and friends of the 69 young ladies shared the momentous event with the administration and faculty of Saint Dominic Academy.
The students chose Mr. Roy Cramer, math teacher, to be their guest speaker for the evening. Mr. Cramer, touched by the honor, addressed the students in a speech that was both humorous and thoughtful: “I sincerely want to thank the parents, family, friends and administration of Saint Dominic Academy for allowing me to be a part of the growth of these amazing young ladies.” When he ended his speech, he received a standing ovation from his elated young audience.
On that evening, two SDA alumnae, Mrs. Robin Gfroehrer-Kelly, ‘83 and Mrs. Vicki McDonald Lindorff, ’72, passed on the legacy of SDA to their daughters, Sarah Kelly of Clifton and Emily Lindorff of Kearny, by bestowing on them the class rings that they had received when they were Juniors at SDA. Another family member at the ceremony that evening remarked how impressed she was with the fact that such wonderful traditions continue at SDA.
Before closing the ceremony with the Class Song, “I’ll be There for You” by the Rembrandts, Junior, Julianne Murphy dedicated the evening to all of the parents attending the event. In her speech she stressed how grateful the Juniors were to their parents for giving them the opportunity to attend Saint Dominic Academy.
