Clubs and Programs
Here at SDA we offer many exciting clubs and activities for students to engage in. From service activities, to cultural exploration to vocal performance and journalism there's something for everyone!

 Choral Programs
Open to all who demonstrate some talent for singing and an appreciation for music, these choral groups provide musical performances to multiple audiences throughout the school year. In return for their dedication and commitment, members are able to strengthen their talent both as individuals and as a group while they learn musical pieces and arrangements.

The Glee Club has won first and second place trophies at national competitions over the past several years and the Dominoes have taken classes at the Juilliard School and have sung at both Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

The Alma Mater rocked!   All that unleashed  SDA  energy couldn't be dampened by the dreary drizzling day.   If it was cold and damp, they didn't notice it. And when it was wrap - up time, the girls sang-- no, they rocked--  into a gusty rendition of the  Alma Mater  as some seniors, realizing this to be their last SDA Walk-a-thon, shamelessly allowed some  tears to fall.
This was Spirit Day 2009 - a more appropriate name for the Walk-a-thon -   on the SDA fall calendar since 1986, when the first such fundraising event was held. The first walk went all the way to Liberty State Park!  Happily for today’s walkers, Lincoln Park is a mere half-mile away from SDA, where the planned  fun-events take place.   Funds raised this year totaled around $35,000, and, as in the past, will be used for special improvement projects, such as the computer room and the lighting system in the Elan Assembly Hall.
The massive preparatory work that went into this event was under the able management of  Ms. Kate Lillis and Ms. Carmen Vega who, since this past summer, had been working on the project. Shortly after the beginning of the school year, they were ready with mountains of envelopes, flyers, memos to the teachers, notices to the students.  The envelopes with their donations slowly trickled infor almost a month, but by the finishing line, homeroom teachers were literally deluged with returnsas the students got caught up in the fever of costume planning, banner painting, and after-the-walk organizing.
The seniors proudly led the parade up JFK Blvd., all decked out in their blues, while the juniors  followed in their reds. The sophomores in greens preceded the freshmen in purple as they got warmed up to the excitement of  their very first SDA Walk-a-thon.   Crazy socks, face paint, obscure or funny messages on T-shirts , dancing girls – these delighted people all along the way to Lincoln Parkwhere Spirit Day 2009 became another page of unforgettable photos which the girls will now store in their bank of happy SDA memories.
