The Dominoes to perform with Andre Rieu as he kicks off his “Celebration of Music”  North American Tour

In a school year that included a fifth performance at Carnegie Hall and a concert at Caldwell College with recording artist Tim Janis, the Dominoes are ending the year with their biggest gig ever! Less than two weeks ago, Janis asked Dominoes director, Joseph P.Napoli to contact Andre Rieu’s tour managers who were looking for a choir to perform Michael Jackson’s Earth Song with Rieu, his 55 piece Johann Strauss orchestra and Brazilian soprano Carmen Monarcha at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum. Mr. Napoli made the necessary arrangements and a new chapter in the Dominoes history begins on Friday, June 18th.

Andre Rieu is an international superstar. The Dutch violinist’s 2009 tour took in 96 million dollars making Rieu the sixth top grossing musician of the year according to Billboard Magazine. Rieu kicks off his tour with a performance on the Plaza for the Today Show on Wednesday, June 16th. Members of the Dominoes will cheer him on with banners saying,

The Saint Dominic Academy Dominoes
Jersey City, New Jersey
Love Andre Rieu

And,

The Dominoes look forward to performing with you this Friday!

Rieu’s staff requested a 30 voice, mix gendered choir and Napoli asked boys from Saint John the Apostle School in Linden, New Jersey to join the Dominoes. Napoli never knew of the school or its choir until a few days earlier when he received a letter from Brother Ralph, the Assistant Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Newark schools, congratulating the Saint John’s Choir and their director, Tom Pedas, for a superior performance at a recent music festival. Napoli contacted Saint John’s principal, Sister Donna Marie OP and Tom. When the bus leaves for Long Island this Friday, Tom and nine boys from SJTA will be on board. SJTP and SDA are both schools in the Archdiocese of Newark and both are run by Dominican Sisters of Caldwell, New Jersey.

With 16,000 seats, the Nassau Coliseum is the largest venue the Dominoes have ever performed in and Rieu is the first international star they have ever sung with. When asked what’s up next for the Dominoes, Mr. Napoli shrugged and said, ‘What is up from the pinnacle of the music world? Singing beautifully is what the Dominoes do. Many more opportunities will come their way now that we have these contacts and have added this performance to their resume!”
