Dean of Learning and Teaching

The Student Experience Leadership Team is composed of the Dean of Learning and Teaching and the Dean of Student Leadership and Activities,  As a Team, they coordinate the spiritual, intellectual, moral, and physical facets of the student experience. The Dominican charism of caritas et veritas (love and truth) guide how all curricular and co-curricular programs and policies are constructed.  


The members of the Student Experience Team are also members of the Leadership Team both directly report to the Head of School.  The Dean of Learning and Teaching will oversee the Academic Council; the Dean of Student Leadership and Activities works with club advisors and grade level moderators.


Dean of Learning and Teaching

This is a full-time position. The core responsibilities include:

To maintain congruency between the school’s mission statement and all academic activities.

To utilize research and understanding of how girls learn and excel.

To act as the educational leader of the school, responsible for its day-to-day operation; scheduling of students, overseeing of the academic and guidance programs; monitoring student academic progress.

To provide for the academic guidance of students; to maintain complete academic records on all students; to oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.

To support the Admission Office in the reviewing of candidates.

To observe, supervise, and help evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process and to review and evaluate the academic program.

To ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulation and agencies; to maintain the educational standards established by the state of New Jersey and by those agencies that examine and accredit the school.

To make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty.

To conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal with both routine school matters and with issues of educational interest and concern.

To oversee the preparation of a master school class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and obligations.

To work with the Academic Council to formulate the Course of Study.

To lead the Academic Council in the articulation of the school mission, school goals, department goals, course objectives, materials, methods and means of assessment, parent reporting, and academic standards.

To serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.

To establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies.

To strive for unity, harmony, and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities of and strengths of each teacher

To prepare and submit an annual program budget.

To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
