Students Attend Disney YES Program

Saint Dominic Academy was invited by Walt Disney World to participate for a second consecutive year in their Youth Education Series (YES) program; a series of workshops for high school students. 16 students in grades 9-12 were selected to participate in this endeavor.  From February 27 – March 1, the girls along with Mrs. Farrales and Mrs. Lewis, attended sessions at both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT (R) focused on Fundamentals of Photo Storytelling, Techniques of Teamwork and Discovering the American Spirit. Each workshop was approximately three hours long after which the group had time to spend in the parks to witness first hand, what they had learned in the individual workshops.

According to a senior who attended, “Being able to take part in the Disney Yes program was an opportunity I know I will cherish forever.  Learning about storytelling, teamwork and my favorite, the American spirit, alongside my close friends and classmates has allowed me to grow as a leader.  I was so glad to be able to take the things I learned back to school with me.”

Mrs. Farrales shared, “This is my second Disney YES trip and, true to form, Disney Doesn’t Disappoint!  It’s amazing how the program effectively translates Disney’s success story into workshops that teach and inspire.  Each of the 16 young women we were with headed back home taking the Disney “can-do-magic” with them.  And to top it all, we spent two amazing days with two of our most accomplished alumnae from whom the girls saw glimpses of what they could achieve and who they could become beyond SDA.”
