Youth Recognition Sunday Award Recipients

On Sunday, November 12, SDA Director of Campus Ministry and Chair of the Religion Department, Mrs. Joan Simon and two seniors will be recognized at the Youth Recognition Sunday ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark.  The seniors will be awarded the Youth Discipleship Award as students who respond to the call to discipleship through service to their school community.  Mrs. Simon will receive the Light of the World Award in appreciation and gratitude for her demonstrated commitment to young people and youth ministry at Saint Dominic Academy.

According to Rich Donovan, Associate Director of the Archdiocesan Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office, “Each of our parishes and schools are blessed year after year with many fine and gifted youth and adults that contribute to the life and mission of our parishes and schools by the sharing of their time, talent and treasures.  We (here at the office) want to stand beside you, and give you the opportunity to honor, affirm, congratulate and show gratitude to these fine youth and adults.”

Designed as a tool to lift up role models in youth ministry, the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) National Recognitions in Youth Ministry affirms, acknowledges, and empowers young people and adults who provide authentic, credible, and competent witness to the Gospel in their parish or schools.

Held each year at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, this Ceremony allows parishes and high schools to honor up to two teens and one adult for their outstanding contributions in service and ministry to either their parish or school.
