St. Dominic Academy is a Catholic, independent college preparatory day school for young women in grades 7-12 founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell in 1878. Located in Jersey City, New Jersey, St. Dominic Academy serves a highly diverse population from Hudson, Bergen, Union, and Essex counties.
SDA seeks a chemistry/physics teacher for the 25-26 school year. A science teacher can expect 4 full-year classes and work in support of the department by performing other duties related to teaching and curriculum development, including sections of Honors and Advanced Placement- Chemistry. SDA is interested in someone who is able to teach other STEM and science-specific courses as needed; who will be challenged and captivated by the possibilities of expansion and growth in the science department; displays passion for science and students; and, demonstrates flexibility with the evolving needs of schools.
A successful candidate:
- Prepares student-centered stimulating and academically rigorous content that reflects adolescent development, student abilities and interests, and curricular knowledge
- Employs a variety of teaching methods that build inclusive classrooms by engaging the learners with different backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles.
- Works collaboratively and professionally with colleagues, students, administrators, and families.
- Communicates effectively with students, families, colleagues
- Maintains accurate student records such as grades and comments and communicates such data in accordance with the academic calendar and School expectations.
- Participates fully in the life of the school with expectations of, but not limited to: modeling behaviors that contribute to a positive and collaborative working and learning environment; cultivating positive partnerships with parents; participating in meetings, professional development; updating and modifying curriculum guides
- Displays commitment to Dominican charism and the school’s mission and vision by participating fully in extracurricular and community activities regularly (including those sometimes beyond routine school hours)
A successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
- Previous experience teaching (secondary and/or all girls preferred)
- Expertise in content area with flexibility and interest to teach a range of courses
- Ability to demonstrate growth mindset, optimism, and belief that all students can excel
- Experience as a practitioner of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in and outside of the classroom
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written), organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Comfort and facility with technologies that enhance teaching and learning (e.g. Google applications, school information systems/learning management, etc.)
