Saint Dominic Academy, an all-girls, college-preparatory school serving students in grades 7–12, seeks a forward-thinking and student-focused leader to serve as Dean of Teaching and Learning. Reporting to the Head of School, the Dean oversees the academic program and daily operations related to teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will be an approachable and experienced educational leader who is passionate about empowering faculty and young women, fostering academic excellence, and cultivating a positive school culture rooted in mutual respect, personal growth, and achievement.
The Dean of Learning and Teaching, along with the Dean of Student Leadership and Activities, the Dean of School Culture, and the Campus Minister lead the student experience. As a Team, they coordinate the spiritual, intellectual, moral, and physical facets of the student experience. The Dominican charism of caritas et veritas (love and truth) guide how all curricular and co-curricular programs and policies are constructed.
This role requires a visionary and compassionate leader who is committed to the formation of young women and the development of a rigorous, mission-driven academic program. The ideal candidate will bring both administrative expertise and a collaborative spirit to further enrich the academic life of Saint Dominic Academy.
Academic Leadership Duties:
- Lead the planning, implementation, and assessment of a robust and engaging academic program that supports high standards of achievement and student growth
- Collaborate with department chairs and faculty to ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices across all grades
- Monitor student academic progress and work with faculty and support staff to provide timely interventions and enrichment opportunities
- Promote instructional innovation and the effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning
- Utilize current research and understanding of how girls learn and thrive to shape curriculum and pedagogy
- Collaborate with the Academic Council to refresh as needed the Course of Study
Faculty Supervision & Support:
- Advise the Head of School on hiring, retention, and faculty assignments
- Supervise, support, and evaluate teaching staff, ensuring high-quality instruction and focused horizontal and vertical curricular alignment and faculty engagement as advisors
- Provide leadership in professional development, mentoring, and ongoing faculty growth
- Ensure adherence to school policies and expectations
- Monitor and support faculty in regular communication to families
- Encourage a collaborative and collegial faculty culture focused on continuous improvement and student success
- Lead regular faculty meetings to address both the routine matters and broader educational goals
- Oversee the development of the master school schedule and coordinate teacher and student class assignments
Student Engagement & School Culture:
- Maintain a strong and visible presence, engaging actively with girls, faculty, and families
- Support the social, emotional, and behavioral development of students in partnership with the School Counselors and advisors
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and respectful school environment that promotes integrity, responsibility, and community
Administrative & Operational Duties:
- Work with the Head of School and leadership team to ensure the effective management of day-to-day school operations (e.g.: attendance, safety, etc)
- Participate in school-wide strategic planning, accreditation efforts, and policy development
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding academic programs, student progress, and school events
- Contribute to enrollment, admissions, and outreach initiatives as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education or educational leadership preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience; prior school leadership experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in managing academic programs, mentoring faculty, and supporting student development
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
