The Academy seeks a full-time English teacher with expertise in writing and multicultural literature for the 25-26 school year. A teacher can expect 5 full-year classes and work in support of the department by performing other duties related to teaching and curriculum development. Humanities Department Chair is an option. SDA is interested in teaching cross-departmental courses as needed; who displays passion for student growth; and who demonstrates flexibility with the evolving needs of schools.
A successful candidate:
- Prepares student-centered stimulating and academically rigorous content that reflects adolescent development, student abilities and interests, and curricular knowledge.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods that build inclusive classrooms by engaging the learners with different backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles.
- Works collaboratively and professionally with colleagues, students, administrators, and families.
- Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Maintains accurate student records such as grades and comments and communicates such data in accordance with the academic calendar and School expectations.
- Participates fully in the life of the school with expectations of, but not limited to: modeling behaviors that contribute to a positive and collaborative working and learning environment; cultivating positive partnerships with parents; participating in meetings, professional development; updating and modifying curriculum guides.
- Displays commitment to Dominican charism and the school’s mission and vision by participating fully in extracurricular and community activities regularly (including those sometimes beyond routine school hours).
A successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
- Previous experience teaching (secondary and/or all girls preferred)
- Expertise in content area with flexibility and interest to teach a range of courses
- Ability to demonstrate growth mindset, optimism, and belief that all students can excel
- Experience as a practitioner of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in and outside of the classroom
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written), organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- comfort and facility with technologies that enhance teaching and learning (e.g. Google applications, school information systems/learning management, etc.)
